Yamhill Carlton AVA Spring Tasting

We love this event! It is about our tenth year participating in this lively tasting of 35+ wineries from the Yamhill Calrton AVA. All wineries pour only wines from the AVA, so we will be pouring single vineyard wines from Deux Vert Vineyard, Kalita Vineyard, and Fairsing Vinyeard. Jessica will be pouring with Mike Green, who planted and farmed Deux Vert Vineyard until this past year, so you can have both the grower and winemaker take. This year, it will be hosted by WillaKenzie Estate. Tickets sell out fast, so get yours for $50 in advance.

Guest Winemaker Series: Burner Wines

We operated by appointment only in the winery for 13 years before we opened our tasting room. During that time, we were invited to pour in the tasting rooms of other wineries from time to time. We met some great Friends of Et Fille that way. Now it is time for us to pay it forward and welcome our winemaker friends that don’t have tasting rooms in the valley to share their story and pour their wines. That means you get to taste beautiful wines from two wineries- it is an opportunity to taste an old favorite and discover a new one. No appointment is needed- simply stop by on the day they are our guests and taste wines from both wineries for $15 (waived for Et Fille Club members).

On 4/13, join Lisa Burner of Burner Wines to hear how Lisa decided to start her own winery and taste her beautiful wines. Hint: Like us, Lisa started by making wine in her garage. Jessica met Lisa through Arthur Kalita when Lisa started working with Kalita Vineyard.

California vs. Oregon Blind Horizontal Tasting

Last year at IPNC, we were on a panel that had an interesting task: take five wineries from different regions- two from Oregon and three from California- producing a 2015 single vineyard wine, hear the winemaking story about the wines, taste them blind, and see if you can identify which one matches the winemaker’s description. It was such a fascinating blind tasting that Jessica would like to replicate the experience for you. Come and hear about the wines that Jessica selected, taste them, and be ready to get some wrong (Jessica did) and discuss. Advance reservation required by emailing jessica@etfillewines.com or calling 503.538.2900. $25 tasting fee for Et Fille Estate and Wine Club members; $40 tasting fee for non-members.

Guest Winemaker: David Ulbricht of SchoneTal Cellars

We recently had the opportunity to taste David’s wines over a fun dinner with friends and immediately asked if he would be a Guest Winemaker. His tiny production Pinot Noirs are spectacular - all made from Pommard fruit from some of the Valley’s top vineyards.

In David’s words: “SchöneTal Cellars pays tribute to our family's German heritage and our journey here to the Willamette Valley. After my wife and I married we settled down in McMinnville, Oregon where we had four beautiful children. Our life has blossomed here, for many reasons, but the wholesome people, captivating landscapes and the undeniable culture of wine and food is what's kept us here for so many years.

My love for wine-making initially started when I began volunteering my time during harvest. The cold brisk mornings and the purple stains on my hands never seemed to last quite long enough, and in 2014 I managed to source some of the best Pinot Noir grapes in the northwest and SchöneTal Cellars finally came to life.

Our approach to wine-making is simple, fermentation occurs naturally in nature and that's exactly how we keep it in the cellar. We believe in allowing our grapes to express their true eloquence by naturally undergoing fermentation without any manipulation. Letting the grapes reveal their natural beauty and balance from the surrounding territory is what makes our wines recognizable.”

Anam Cara: Artist Reception, Catalina Gereton

Meet artist Catalina Garretón and view her stunning pieces at our tasting room. Catalina is an internationally recognized Chilean-American abstract painter and textile designer. Born in Seattle and learning to paint there and later in Spartanburg, South Carolina (accent on request), painting was always a necessary habit. After earning a BFA in Painting and a Minor in Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill, Catalina focused her artist eye as a photojournalist in Santiago, Chile before landing in colorful San Francisco. There, Catalina continued to paint and had her first studio in the Mission District. She pursued a career in marketing and working under incredible mentors for both start-up and public companies with clients such as Marriott, Nike, Lionsgate Films, Summit Entertainment and National Geographic. It was during this chapter that Catalina began showing and creating more and more, and eventually launched her own venture, Catalina Garreton Art + Design, which took her to teach art and exhibit in Barcelona, Colorado, Los Angeles and now a return to the Pacific Northwest in Portland, Oregon.

Artist Statement:
Born to an interior designer and director of photography, I declared at age 4 that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. I learned at a very young age that I could make things with my two hands that brought joy and created connection to others--and I haven't wanted to stop since that day. I also believe in making bold moves, on and off the canvas. In 2014, I circumnavigated the globe: I taught classes and exhibited in Barcelona, created commission paintings in Singapore, studied batik in Bali, found inspiration from both the aboriginal and contemporary conceptual artists of Australia, and connected with my artist tribe in Chile. This world has so many incredible corners; connecting with people in all walks keeps me inspired every day. I find inspiration and pattern constantly in nature; I also love the structure and patterns found in our urban spaces and my pieces tend to dance with both of these themes. I adore and respect so many places in the world, and the gratitude I have for living each day is at the base of everything I do. My proudest work is creating commissions that help remind people of and take pride in their uniqueness, their sacred memories and values. I believe we are here for a short time and that it deserves to be celebrated.
